JCC Krakow and the Universitas Society of Scientific Papers Authors and Publishers cordially invite you to meet with Marian Marzyński, a renowned Polish Jewish film director and screenwriter, the author of the book Kino–ja. Życie w kadrach filmowych [Cinema-I. A Life in Stillshots], published by Universitas in 2017.

The meeting will be accompanied by the screening of Nigdy nie zapomnij kłamać [Never Forget to Lie], a film about child Holocaust survivors, directed by Marian Marzyński in 2013. Following the screening, there will be a brief discussion and presentation of Marzyński’s latest book. At the meeting, you will have the opportunity to purchase the book (both Polish and American editions.)

“In the 1960's Marian Marzyński was one of the most popular people in Poland: he was the man who created and hosted many popular TV shows, such as Turniej Miast!; also, as the director of his debut documentary The Return of a Ship he received both the Złoty Lajkonik and Złoty Smok awards at the Krakow Film Festival in 1964. He has come a long way since then. In March 1968, he emigrated to the U.S., where he continued his work as a documentary filmmaker and produced many films in different parts of the world, and as a teacher – the famous director Gus Van Sant was one of his students. A Life in Stillshots tells the story of this long journey. It is an amazing book not only because of the topics it covers and themes that it touches upon, but also because of its structure, groundbreaking for a book that deals with movies and filmmaking. The literary narrative is accompanied by a second one – the visual narrative, the titular still shots, that you experience as if they were up on a screen.”
