The book discusses the impact of German occupation policy on the lives and behavior of women and their role in the local Jewish community. The author examines such elements of everyday life as weekday rituals, family traditions, pregnancy, motherhood and raising children, professional work and the household conversion of social roles, religion, leisure, education, recreation, entertainment, and political activity and conspiracy. Also included is discourse on the attitudes and behavior inherent in successive periods of occupation and the difficult choices faced almost every day by Jewish women of that era.
