Film screening: "Boris Dorfman - A Mentsh", directed by Gabi and Uwe von Seltmann

"Boris Dorfman - A Mentsh" is a Yiddish documentary. It was filmed in Lviv, Ukraine and it is the first part of a "Jewish trilogy" series (Lviv, Krakow, New York) which is currently under production. 75 years after the outbreak of World War II, Boris Dorfman leads us to places of fear and corners of hope in the history of Lviv's Jews. The 90-year-old Boris is probably the last Jew from Lviv whose mother tongue is Yiddish. Boris Dorfman recalls the past to prepare the new generations for the future - as a "mentsh", a man of love and empathy.

The film was awarded with “Yiddish Oskar 2014“ and the “Medal Fundacji Monumentum Iudaicum Lodzense“ for it’s “outstanding contribution to the revival of the Yiddish culture“. "Boris Dorfman - A Mentsh" was screened at several festivals in Europe and Northern America and will have its Australian première in March.
