zydzi w kielcach

The history of Jews as a community began in Kielce quite late - in the second half of the 19th century. To settle in the town Jews had to fight the resistance of the townspeople for a long time. After the Jewish community settled, the community overcame its preexisting stereotypes and anxieties about living with a Jewish community. For many years, Kielce was a perfect example of coexistence. Overshadowed by World War II and the post-war events (the tragic pogrom of 1946), Kielce and its former citizens deserve to have their history remembered - one that is both extraordinary and typical for so many other Polish cities.
