“It is very difficult to categorize Darek Pala’s art. It somewhere at the crossroads of several different trends; it combines color with gesture, non-figurative form with hidden romanticism. In a way, it’s a journalistic record of sorts. [...] At the heart of it, Pala is an abstractionist. Any detail, once recognizable, wanes over time. What retains significance is rhythm, composition, tension and, most of all, color. The specter of colors is reduced to greens and whites, with just traces of other colors here and there to emphasize chromatic strains. But it is green that prevails – the tranquillest of all the colors, according to W. Kandinsky. It is immovable, it holds no joy, no sorrow, no passion. And yet the gamut of greens in Pala’s painting is enormous. (...)”
