Senior Club
The Seniors’ Club program
is a broad effort to integrate the community. It is meant to support
the initiative of older people in such a way so that their memories
are kept and remembered as they pass on. There are generally about 30
members; however during certain events, such as the holidays, many more
people attend.
Seniors’ Club meetings take
place at the JCC four times a week, from Monday to Thursday, from 14:00
to 20:00. The members of the club partake in various activities. Once
a week, English lessons for both beginners and advanced are offered
as well as courses in Jewish needlework and dance. Computer and art
lessons are also available.
Besides our scheduled activities,
the Seniors’ Club also organizes various events and parties, song
evenings, film showings, meetings, lectures, cooking classes, excursions
and outings. There is also the possibility to take advantage of
the reading room. The Seniors’ Club also hosts certain activities
offered by the Association of Jewish Community and Culture. Participants
of the Seniors’ Club actively take part in all the programs offered
by the JCC.
The Seniors’ Club has been
led for 4 years now by Malgorzata Zajda. I am very happy that I run
the Seniors’ Club. I feel abundantly fulfilled and emotionally connected
with my seniors. Here we join each other both in our joys as in our
sorrows. Everybody brings something personal to this Club and leaves
a piece of themselves here.
The Seniors’ Club is also, and perhaps most importantly, a place where you can simply meet with friends and talk. We have got a friendly, home-like atmosphere and all members of the Club give this place an enormous dose of warmth, the greatest proof of which can be found in their enthusiastic responses:
-The greatest proof that I like it here is that I come here everyday. When it’s closed, it feels as though I’m about to turn ill. The atmosphere is warm and homey. Sometimes instead of going to work, I sit here, which some will admonish me for, but to which I can say that it is very, very pleasant here. This Club replaced three other organizations in essence: The TSKZ, The Society of Children of the Holocaust and the Seniors Club. Now everybody comes here.
